1 +++ 2 title = 'Writting something obvious for practice and fun' 3 date = 2025-11-23T23:23:05+01:00 4 draft = false 5 +++ 6 Here's a common idea: 7 "nothing is good in excess". 8 It usually follows with another one: 9 "everything is bad if regulated" or something along these lines. 10 We have been taught that nocive habits 11 are only really bad when they are practiced in excess. 12 13 For example, if you see a skinny person eating chips, 14 you're not going to think about the problem this 15 supposes to their health. 16 17 It's interesting: 18 that person is destroying its body 19 for a seemingly senseless activity, 20 and we see nothing wrong with that. 21 Granted, the effects are *not noticeable* 22 in plain sight, 23 **but that doesn't mean they aren't there**. 24 25 *Allow me to elaborate..* 26 27 28 ## Every choice has a consequence 29 The quote that made me change my mind was from 30 Dr Eric Berg, when he was talking about nutrition 31 and explained this same concept. 32 Eating chips has negative effects **and** no positive effects, 33 therefore *it's just bad*. Logical, isn't it? 34 35 Now, take that concept and apply it to other aspects of life. 36 37 Social media consumption, as of now, has no opposite outcome 38 that makes up for its negatives. 39 Therefore, it doesn't matter how long you are on your phone: 40 you will *still* face its negative effects in a minor scale. 41 42 As for TV (and especially advertisements), 43 *yes*, all of these have an effect on you, even if you 44 watch them "in moderation". 45 46 47 ## This is why advertisements work! 48 Advertisements are meant to have an effect on you. 49 They are meant to change your worldview and your perspective 50 with subtile ideas. 51 Even if you believe they have no effect on you, 52 **ads exist for a reason**. 53 54 Needless to say, the effects are hard to quantify. 55 The most common consequence is a disatisfaction with 56 your current state in life, 57 but how do you quantify that? 58 How can you tell how you would have been if you haven't 59 watched that many advertisements? 60 61 As paranoid as it may sound, 62 it's important to remember that *these effects still exist* 63 and distancing yourself for it will **almost certainly** 64 have a positive impact on your life. 65 66 67 ## Isn't that impractical? 68 Going all-in against negative habits 69 also brings challenges and negative consequences! 70 It could be like stopping a water leak but breaking 71 the rest of the water system in the process. 72 73 With that said, 74 I like considering my options before doing things, 75 thinking of what I have to gain and lose 76 depending of what I choose. 77 So far this has only lead to positive outcomes.
